You’re Just Lucky That You’re So Self Disciplined

“You’re just lucky that you’re so self disciplined.”

Yes. Someone said that to me once.

Referring to some of the successes in my life, they thought the only reason I had been successful was because I was lucky. Lucky that I was self disciplined. Lucky that I had the drive to put in the work, and therefore, lucky that I was successful.

I laughed inside for a minute at the irony, but kept it to myself as I realized that this person (a good friend too!) was not in a good place and was simply trying to justify to themselves why they had recently failed at a few things.

It reminded me of this quote:

“Don’t let the opinions of the average man sway you. Dream, and he thinks you’re crazy. Succeed, and he thinks you’re lucky. Acquire wealth, and he thinks you’re greedy. Pay no attention. He simply doesn’t understand.”

Robert G. Allen

People generally fall into two groups: People who make things happen and people who make excuses. Or in other words, people who think everything is their fault and people who think everything is someone else’s fault.

Where do you fall?

I can tell you this – people who are in the second group will always be envious of those in the first. They’ll never experience the happiness that comes from achieving goals and dreams. They are the people who sit around tearing down anyone who stands taller because they can’t handle the jealousy. Be someone who makes something of yourself. Be a self starter. Take your life into your own hands and go after something. Do it today.
